Innsbruck-Tirol to host UCI 2018 Road World Championships
The region of the Tyrol and the city of Innsbruck have officially been awarded the UCI 2018 Road World Championships, one of the world’s greatest sporting events. ‘Financing is in place and we are convinced that we are able to organise exciting and diverse Road World Championships in the Tyrol’, Deputy Governor of the Tyrol Josef Geisler and Deputy Mayor Christoph Kaufmann state. Furthermore, the region of the Tyrol and Innsbruck have an excellent reputation as hosts for major sport events. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) decided to award the 2018 Road World Championship to Innsbruck in Belgium at the weekend.
Innsbruck-tirol sports gmbh (ITS) has been entrusted with the organisation of the 2018 Road World Championships taking place from 23-30 September 2018. After the Innsbruck 2016 International Children’s Games (ICG 2016) this is the second major event being organised by ITS. ‘It is great to see how the original idea of a sustainable, non-profit company has developed since the YOG and that the company can now organise this major sport event’, Georg Spazier, Chief Executive Officer of the ITS states. The race towards the Innsbruck-Tirol 2018 UCI Road World Championships has just begun and more information will be available very soon at www.innsbruck-tirol2018.com.
The Tyrol fulfils the wish of the UCI for a race with difficult climbs. Austria has already hosted two Road World Championships, namely in the region of Villach/Faakersee in 1987 and in Salzburg in 2006.< News
