Tyrolean School Winter Games
Even though the Tyrol is one of the best-known and busiest winter sport regions in the world, there are still many challenges when it comes to getting talented young people enthusiastic for winter sport. Therefore, we used the Innsbruck 2016 International Children’s Games in order to initiate the first Tyrolean School Winter Games in close cooperation with the governing body of the regional schools of Tyrol. Around 2,000 pupils from all regions of the Tyrol created a major sport event for local young people. The registered school classes had the chance to show their skills in different winter sport disciplines at the official venues of the international competitions. Additionally to the ICG sports events, the Tyrolean School Winter Games offered Luge Natural Track and Curling. Doing winter sports together, moving and having fun – that’s the goal!
One thing that is already clear for us is that this event will take place every second year and should become an integral part of the last school week before the semester school break.
